Norman J. Marcus, M.D. (view C.V.) is a pioneer, author, consultant and researcher who has established national pain medicine models for over two decades. He has developed a proven diagnostic approach that can find a cause of the pain that can result in treatment complimentary to a successful outcome.
Dr. Marcus's unique perspective on the treatment of pain has earned the respect of the Medical and Insurance communities nationwide. He is a member of nine professional societies and has presented over 100 lectures about pain management and diagnoses to audiences throughout the world.
Board certified and voted for three consecutive years by New York Magazine as one of New York City's Best Doctors, he has dedicated his practice to the elimination of pain. Here's his approach to pain:
| "Successfully treating pain may involve more than one approach. If you are a physician treating a painful condition or a patient undergoing treatment, an additional protocol combining muscle analysis, stress reduction through body awareness, psychological support as well as a customized medication regimen may complement the existing treatment approach." |
After two years as a staff physician at the Headache Unit at Montefiore Hospital, Dr Marcus with Edith Kepes MD founded and directed the first pain center in NYC in 1977 at Montefiore Hospital. He went on to establish and direct pain centers at Lenox Hill Hospital in NYC from 1983-98 and The Princess Margaret Hospital in Windsor, UK from 1997-2001. Continuing on his focus to manage pain, Dr. Marcus joined the NYU Pain Management staff in 2002. His diagnostic and treatment plans are based on his comprehensive understanding of the pain process and the suffering patient.
